Lunch and Snacks at Abbey Wood Nursery School
Lunch and snack times are very important here at the nursery and we encourage snack times to also be a time to sit and socialise with our friends.
Snacks: In each class we have an area available serving healthy snacks and water – in the morning and in the afternoon. The children are notified that snacks are available and can make the choice if they would like to join the table for a light snack, after washing their hands. Children are offered snacks, that consist of cereals, toast, fruit and other healthy snacks. This is funded through the half termly snack donation contributions.
Lunch: We are really lucky to have our own kitchen on site. Tracey prepares delicious, nutritionally balanced meals each day. The children eat in small groups at tables with tablecloths and a personalised place setting in their classes and are served by the class staff – an adult sits at each table with them. This is encouraged to be a relaxing enjoyable time, where children can receive a hot nutritious meal. We feel this is an important element of the day where children continue to develop, learn about different foods, likes and dislikes and how to use cutlery with increasing skills and autonomy.
Changes within Early Years education have resulted in the introduction of Packed Lunches. However we have strict guildelines that need to be followed to ensure your child has a nutritious and acceptable lunch experience . Our Lunch menus: Daily lunch charges (£2.80 per meal from September 2025) to be paid through the child’s ParentPay account.

There is always a vegetarian option available

We are happy to meet any particular dietary needs for your child for medical, lifestyle or religious reasons.

We ask that a week’s lunch money (£14.00 per week) be paid in advance, via ParentPay. (Please ask one of the office team, if you would like to know more).

Families on Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance might be eligible for free school meals. Please ask in the office for more information and a copy of the FSM application form. Alternatively, click link below to download a FSM form, once completed return form to the school office.
