What is the Governing Body for?

Our chair of governors Joanne Woodroff writes:

'As members of the Governing Body, we are extremely proud of the excellent work of Abbey Wood Nursery School. The staff are fantastic and the children are thriving.
As you may know, children learn more in the first five years than at any other time in their lives. This is therefore a crucial stage in development which can make a significant difference to children's future learning and growth. At Abbey Wood Nursery School, very close partnerships with parents and the local community help ensure that the school is able to make a positive difference to the lives of many families living in Abbey Wood.
As governors, we work in partnership with the school and ensure that the school responds to the needs of the community and help the school plan for its future.
We would like to invite you to explore this website to learn more about the work of the Governing Body and how we support the school, its headteacher and staff.'

The Headteacher, Gill Crowley, is a member of the Governing Body because of the position she holds in the school.

How are parents’ views represented on the governing body?

There are 2 parent governors on the governing body. They are there to give a parental perspective.  You can ask them to represent your views or ask a question on your behalf. You can also ask the chair to put a particular item on the agenda.

Specific issues concerning any individual child cannot be discussed by the governing body.

If you have a complaint about the school which you have not been able to resolve using our Complaints Procedure, or if you have a complaint about the headteacher, then you can contact the chair and ask for your complaint to be investigated by the governors.
